The couple disembarked from the British Royal Air Force plane, after an eight-hour flight, at about 9.30pm at Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi. They were greeted by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Britain’s envoy Thomas Drew, as well as officials of the Foreign Office and the British High Commission in Islamabad.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore an ombre turquoise dress by Catherine Walker, paired with pants which was a variation of the shalwar kameez, traditional national outfit of Pakistan. A sight nothing less than appreciation and respect. While, Prince William wore a navy suit with a blue tie.

Two children also attired in traditional dress presented flower bouquets to the royal guests. The guests thanked them and talked to them for a while.

The trip however was described by Kensington Palace as the most complex trip the couple had undertaken due to security and logistical issues. Meanwhile, Thomas Drew, the British High Commissioner in Pakistan while shedding light on the visit of the Royal couple stated that they will visit the “breadth and depth” of Pakistan as did their predecessors.

The names of the royal who visited Pakistan in the past starts with, William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II in 1996 and 1971, his mother Princess Diana, and father Prince Charles…

“I feel at home in Karachi as we share the same culture and understand each other well” — Queen Elizabeth II, 1997.

However, the most memorable royal tours for Pakistan remain the visits by his mother, the late Princess Diana, in 1991, 1996 and 1997.

Speaking ahead of the latest royal visit, British envoy Thomas Drew said Prince William and Kate’s visit would showcase Pakistan as “a forward-looking country”.

“They hope to meet as many Pakistanis as possible during the course of the visit,” the British high commissioner said in a video message on Twitter. “They are looking forward to building a lasting friendship with the people of Pakistan.”

“I have always been struck by the warmth in Pakistan towards the royal family, and the fond memories of previous visits,” said Drew ahead of the couple’s arrival.

However, the release of public details of the tour were limited due to tight security. In addition to Islamabad, they are set to visit Lahore, as well as the mountainous north and the region near the border with Afghanistan in the west, according to British High Commissioner Thomas Drew.

“From the modern leafy capital Islamabad, to the vibrant city of Lahore, the mountainous countryside in the North, and the rugged border regions to the West, the visit will span over 1,000km, and will take in Pakistan’s rich culture, its diverse communities, and its beautiful landscapes,” read the statement.

The royal couple visited programmes which empower young people, covered how communities in Pakistan are rapidly responding and adapting to the effects of climate change, and even paid visits to the Holy places and iconic tombs while listening to Quranic verses with all the rituals and respect.

The visit took an end today i.e. October 18th and by far, the Royal couple stood appreciated for every step they took and every intent they showed for the and as for the response given by Pakistan. And here, Salam Planet is taking a slightly different interest: tribute to the time Lady Diana visited Pakistan and the choice of the outfit worn by Kate to bring back her memories.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s outfits on the royal tour of Pakistan have drawn comparisons with those worn by Diana, Princess of Wales and have brought back memories that are close to the hearts.

On the second day, Kate’s dress wore a dark blue shalwar kameez designed by Maheen Khan, a striking resemblance to the blue floral pattern outfit Diana wore when she met young cancer patients in a Lahore hospital in May 1997.

On social media many have praised the Duchess for her style choices – and women have been sharing photos of their blue dresses.

But the designer behind some of the outfits says any similarity with what Diana wore is just a coincidence.

“As far as my designs for the Duchess are concerned, I didn’t have any particular idea or colour in mind,” Maheen Khan.

Next, Kate took cue from the colors of the Pakistani flag and opted for a green and white ensemble; tunic by Catherine Walker paired with slack by Maheen Khan, and a dupatta in green by Satrangi.

The couple next arrived to the National Monument Museum where Kate wore a stunning emerald green Jenny Peckham dress while prince William stunned in a sherwani by Naushemian.

Kate wore a white shalwar kameez – a traditional outfit of long tunic and trousers – by Gul Ahmed, while Will wore light blue shirt and dark trousers.

And for the visit to Lahore’s iconic Mughal-era Badshahi Mosque, where they attended an event on religious tolerance Kate turned heads with wat and how she wore. See it to believe it – the image explains it all!
